Welcome to MIJ-NSR Discussions
MRS Internet Journal of Nitride Semiconductor Research Discussions use the World-Wide-Web to implement a new medium for
scientific communication. They are less formal than journal articles-don't expect them
to count as "real" publications. They are moderated to keep the level of discussion high,
and to eliminate the repetitiveness found in newsgroups and mailing lists. They are exclusive,
since only registered users are allowed to contribute, yet they are open,
in that anyone connected to the internet can read them.
Topics for discussions are chosen based on interest and the availability of qualified moderators. If
you are interested in starting and moderating a discussion, please send mail to the Journalmaster. In addition, a discussion page, normally moderated by an author,
is attached to every regular article published in this journal. This will allow articles
to "live" by allowing readers to ask for clarifications, point to more recent work, or to
make comments.
There are three basic types of messages that make up a discussion, Comments, References, and Questions.
Comments
The moderator may chose to respond to any relevant comments.
References
References are comments of the type "This discussion (or article) has neglected to reference the seminal
work of Prof. Smith reported in..." etc. Naturally, the citation should be entered in the
journal database!
Questions
These are questions directed at the moderator. The moderator or moderators may wish to answer many of these
questions themselves.
Criteria for acceptance of messages.
The recommended criteria for having a message accepted are as follows.
- A message for posting must adhere to the rules as outlined on the
registration page. Basically, they should
be polite, they should respect copyrights, antitrust laws and should give proper credit where
credit is due.
- A message should not be repetitive. Each message should bring something new to the
discussion.
- A message should be relevant to the topic of the discussion.
- A message should be well formed. The subject should accurately describe
the content of the message. A message which replies to another message should not
be entered as a new topic.
To be fair, any other criteria for inclusion in a particular discussion should be spelled out in the
discussion prolog. But the moderator's decisions once made, are made.
Submitting a message
To submit a message, fill out the form attached to each discussion page. You must
be a registered user. To follow up to
a message, fill out the form attached to the message you wish to follow up. There is
also a form available so that you can add yourself to the mailing list to notify you when new
messages are added to the discussion.
