These proceedings are the permanent record of Symposium G, titled "GaN and Related Alloys", which was part of the 1998 MRS Fall Meeting held in Boston, Massachusetts, Nov 30-Dec 4, 1998.
The outstanding success of the symposium, both in terms of attendance and scientific quality, was due to the efforts of the following people: the authors and speakers who presented their technical work at the meeting and composed the papers in this proceedings volume; the symposium organizers, who put together the program and saw that it ran smoothly; the session chairpersons (T.
